Effects of light pollution on people

Pollution is the contamination of any kind of the natural environment with elements that may lead to a negative change in it. Pollution can be produced by chemicals or energy, such as sound, heat or light. Pollutants can be man-made substances or energy, or naturally occurring contaminants.

Scientists have been sounding the alarm bells for decades about the negative effects of energy pollution, particularly noise and light pollution. We call excessive, misdirected or obtrusive artificial lighting light pollution or photic pollution. The consequences of this pollution, or excessive lighting, are manifold, and some may not be known.
