Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation and joint pain and statistically affecting about 1% of the general population. RA is a real public health problem but also a real social problem, due to the fact that more than 50% of those affected stop working in the first 5 years and 10% acquire a secondary visceral disorder.

The etiology of the disease is unfortunately unknown, the clinical course being revealed by a systemic erosive synovitis, which generates severe joint lesions, and in certain evolutionary stages the damage is polysystemic.
